New Media Predictions

Hi all, just thought I’d toss out the twitter feed “themediaisdying” – yeah, negative name, but some really good info.  They have a Media Predictions for 2010, which look interesting.

The library had a speaker, Helene Blowers, a big champion for libraries and the digital world – one thing she said “you are what you share” – which is so true today.  Looking at Media Predictions (and many other future predictions) we surely cannot ignore the media:  new media, social media, digitization, social networking.  So I just suggest that we think about it when we work with our population here at OU — students, faculty, staff, community.

Here in the library we will use some new media ideas looking to see how well they are received:  Workshops held via Adobe Connect (we are doing a RefWorks workshop winter Q), the library has a twitter account, aldenlibrary, and more specifically, aldendvds – so if you like twitter, try these out.   There is an Alden Library facebook page.  We also have video help tutorials for those who prefer to see a video demo of how to library stuff, and we are always looking for suggestions.

Alden Library has a Facebook page

facebook1Just wanted you to know that you and/or your students (provided you have a facebook account), can become a Fan of Alden Library. Just search for Alden Library in Facebook and click.

I spoke to a small sampling of students, and they said they would check it out if we had a page. Right now we are providing little pieces of info such as hours and phone numbers, link to Alice, OhioLINK, Cite Me, we are gathering photo albums of the library departments and services – for example, OhioLINK books come in bags, from a courier and get unloaded off a truck….then the process begins in house. Ever think about how they get here? There is also a CHAT WITH A LIBRARIAN search box. I walk around the library a lot and I would say, oh, 75% of the students will be on FACEBOOK or IMing. So, we thought we’d go to them. Feel free to spread the word. Thanks.
